Special Education Services

CES Audiological Services include:

• Audiological Evaluations for preschool age children through high school.
• Monthly audiological consultation for hearing impaired students including tympanometry, hearing aid, and FM checks.
• Central Auditory Processing Evaluations for children 8 years of age and older.

Audiological Evaluations

• Complete Audiological Evaluation for preschool age children through high school.
• Consultation services which may include interpretation of test results and information on the hearing loss and its educational implications.
• All evaluations are conducted at our Oakview Drive facility in a soundproof room.

Central Auditory Processing Evaluations

• Evaluations are available for children age 8 years of age and older.
• Clinical assessment and/or reassessment of children with suspected auditory processing disorders.
• Appropriate educational recommendations including management and suggestions for amplification systems will be provided.
• Consultation to the Planning and Placement Team is available.

Consultation

• Interpretation of test results and its educational implications.
• Appropriate educational recommendations including management and suggestions for amplification systems.
• Classroom observations to assist in determining a child's individual audiological needs.
• Consultation to the PPT is available.

Training

• In-service training for teachers and other school personnel regarding the use and benefit of personal hearing aids, personal FM systems and classroom amplification systems.
• Troubleshooting for minor equipment problems.

Occupational and Physical Therapy is provided to C.E.S. students enrolled in each of our school-based programs. Intervention is provided based upon the goals and objectives identified in the student’s Individualized Education Program (IEP). Our therapists use a variety of strategies in their therapeutic approaches. Some strategies include:

• Sensory Integrative Approach

• Sensory Modulation

• Therapeutic Listening

• Handwriting Without Tears

• Core, Vestibular, Bilateral, and Movement Protocols

• Yoga

Therapists work with students individually and in groups in the therapy rooms and classrooms. They also collaborate with classroom teachers to implement strategies during instructional activities. The goal of the OT/PT program is for students to be active participants in their educational program. Therapists provide intervention to help students attain and maintain attention, manage materials, demonstrate appropriate behavior and complete assignments. They also impact the student’s ability to be successful completing various activities of daily living and to participate in community and work activities.

Speech and Language Therapy is provided to C.E.S. students who qualify for services in each of our school-based programs. The teaching staff in all of our programs begin with the premise that language, communication, and social interaction are key elements to student success. All of our Speech Language Pathologists collaborate with the educational teams in all classrooms to establish the use of effective communication strategies.

To meet the specific needs of students, intervention is provided based upon the goals and objectives identified in the student's Individualized Education Program (IEP). Our Speech Language Pathologists provide therapy based upon the current researched-based interventions. Besides language competence, our pathologists also concentrate on developing skills to improve social communication and emotional regulation. All of our speech/language pathologists are trained in various methods of augmentative communication systems. Their knowledge goes from the low-tech use of manual signs and pictures to high tech use of Speech Generating Devices.

All of our Speech Language Pathologists work with students individually in the therapy rooms as well as in the context of their educational program. They collaborate with classroom teachers to implement strategies throughout all instructional activities. The goal is for students to be successful participants and effective communicators in their educational program, with peers, and in the community. Speech Language Pathologists support teachers and staff with materials such as social stories, visual supports, and video modeling. They also assist students to develop language skills sufficient to master literacy and writing skills.
